The Baha’i Association at MIT is a student organization whose membership is open to all students and faculty. It organizes regular, diverse events on and off campus.
The MIT Baha’i Association’s (MITBA) main activities revolve around fellowship and the organization of events that are in line with Baha’i ideals such as the independent investigation of truth, the harmony of religion and science, the equality of men and women, the elimination of all forms of prejudice, the oneness of humanity, and the promotion of world peace and governance. We regularly collaborate with other organizations having similar aims.
About The MIT Baha’i Association
The purpose of the Baha’i Association at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology is to promote the ideals of the Baha’i Faith, which includes consorting with members of all religions and backgrounds in the spirit of fellowship. Baha’is believe that religion should fundamentally be a source of unity; to that end, the Baha’i associaiton hosts a number of events throughout the year, including socials, interfaith devotionals and dinners, and talks. One of our hopes is to instill a sense of unity that overcomes cultural, religious, and ideological barriers. Baha’is believe that religion is the source of a human being’s highest aspirations and a powerful force capable of leading humankind to peace and unity.
Baha’is believe in the value of the independent search for truth. We welcome any and all to our events, and encourage comments or questions regarding our events, our club, or the Baha’i Faith.
The Baha’i Association at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology holds a variety of events throughout the term. These range from social events held on Friday nights at Sidney Pacific to large talks given on such topics as the existence of God and the relationship between science and religion.

The Baha’i Faith
Introduction to the Baha’i Faith
For more than a century, Baha’i communities around the globe have been working to break down barriers of prejudice between peoples and have collaborated with other like-minded groups to promote the model of a global society. At the heart of our belief is the conviction that humanity is a single people with a common destiny. In the words of Baha’u’llah, the Founder of our Faith, “The earth is but one country, and mankind its citizens.”
Baha’u’llah taught that there is one God Who progressively reveals His will to humanity. Each of the great religions brought by the Messengers of God – Moses, Krishna, Buddha, Zoroaster, Jesus, Muhammad – represents a successive stage in the spiritual development of civilization. Baha’u’llah, the most recent Messenger in this line, has brought teachings that address the moral and spiritual challenges of the modern world.
The Baha’i Faith upholds the unity of God, recognizes the unity of His Prophets, and inculcates the principles of the oneness and wholeness of the unification of mankind, asserts that it is gradually approaching, and claims that nothing short of the transmuting spirit of God, working through His Mouthpiece in this day, can ultimately succeed in bringing it about.
It moreover enjoins upon its followers the primary duty of an unfettered search after truth, condemns all manner of prejudice and superstition, declares the purpose of religion to be the promotion of amity and concord, proclaims its essential harmony with science, and recognizes it as the foremost agency for the pacification and orderly progress of human society.
It unequivocally maintains the principle of equal rights, opportunities, and privileges for men and women, abolishes the institution of priesthood, prohibits slavery, asceticism, mendicancy and monasticism, prescribes monogamy, discourages divorce, emphasizes the necessity of strict obedience to one’s government, exalts any work performed in the spirit of service to the level of worship, urges either the creation or the selection of an auxiliary international language, and delineates the outlines of those institutions that must establish and perpetuate the general peace of mankind.
